The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is calling on the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to declare the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side together with the independent member of parliament for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, as the majority side in the eighth parliament.

There is an unending debate as to which side will form the majority in Parliament as both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) each has 137 seats in Parliament with one independent candidate in the elections held on 7 December 2020.

However, Mr Afenyo-Markin says the NPP side should be declared the majority because the Independent Fomena MP, has agreed to form a caucus and have a working relationship with the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition in power thereby giving them superior 138 seats in the house to make them the majority.

From his argument, the Effutu lawmaker wants the Speaker to order the NPP caucus to sit on the right side of the aisle reserved for the majority.

In a statement, Mr Afenyo-Markin also wants the Speaker to order that the formation of the various Committees in the House should be tilt in favour of the NPP caucus.
