Defence Minister mocks Bawumia-led economic management team over Ghana’s economic rebound

Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Economic Management Team (EMT) he led under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, accusing them of wreaking havoc on the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
In a strongly worded statement on Facebook, Dr. Boamah criticised the NPP for shifting its focus to the 2026 general elections rather than offering a sincere apology for what he described as “the economic pain and trauma inflicted on the nation“
In just six months out of office, instead of apologising sincerely for the harm they caused, the NPP is busy campaigning for the next election,” Dr. Boamah said.
He particularly mocked Dr. Bawumia’s earlier characterisation of his EMT as a “solid team,” which included key figures such as Dr. Osei Akoto, Prof. Gyan Baffour, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Ken Ofori-Atta, and Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo.
“What a solid team indeed,” Dr. Boamah said sarcastically.
“They left behind a trail of hardship — slashing pensioners' investments, deepening the struggles of persons with disabilities, women, and the youth, and pushing the average Ghanaian into economic despair.”
He further accused the NPP of being self-serving and out of touch with the struggles of everyday citizens.
“They think only about themselves and the next election, not the people they were elected to serve.
Ghanaians deserve better,” he stated.
Dr. Boamah’s remarks appear to align with growing public scrutiny of the NPP’s economic legacy, especially following the country’s recent debt restructuring, high inflation, and rising cost of living under the previous administration.
“The alternative is not just a slogan — it’s a necessary reset,” he concluded
