E/R: NPP chairman hauled before Akroso Traditional Council over alleged disrespect

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been hit by an unexpected internal controversy in the Asene Manso Akroso (AMA) Constituency, as its Constituency Chairman, Mr. Samson Effah, has been summoned before the Akroso Traditional Council for allegedly making disparaging comments against a respected traditional figure.
The Council, led by Nana Kwabena Ofori II – the Akrosohene – expressed strong displeasure and disappointment over a WhatsApp status allegedly posted by Mr. Effah.
The message is said to contain derogatory remarks perceived to target Nana Afia Ohenewaa, the Adontehemaa of the Akroso Traditional Area, who is also a former NPP constituency executive and sister to Mr. Alex Agyei, a well-known party stalwart and former parliamentary aspirant.
According to the Traditional Council, the content of the post was deeply offensive, describing it as immature, unwarranted, and an attack on the dignity of the Adontehemaa, her family, and the traditional authority as a whole.
The Council demanded an unqualified apology from the Chairman, stating that such behaviour undermines the customs and social cohesion of the Akroso people.
During the tense meeting held on Sunday, Mr. Effah denied the allegations and requested concrete evidence to support the claims.
His defiance nearly provoked outrage among the chiefs, but the situation was calmed by the intervention of his home chief, who stepped in to offer an apology on his behalf.
The home chief pleaded with the traditional leaders to exercise leniency, acknowledging the gravity of the incident.
The Traditional Council accepted the apology but issued a stern warning to Mr. Effah, urging him to conduct himself with respect going forward.
They cautioned that any further acts of disrespect would not be tolerated and would be met with swift and decisive action.
Meanwhile, some NPP members within the constituency have expressed disappointment over Mr. Effah’s alleged conduct, describing it as consistent with a troubling pattern of behaviour.
