EC announces by-elections for vacant local gov't positions on November 11

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that by-elections will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
According to the Commission, the elections are being organised to fill vacant Electoral Areas and Unit Committee positions that have arisen due to the death or resignation of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members across all sixteen regions in Ghana.
Some of the districts and communities expected to take part include Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, Adenta, Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Mfantseman, Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Sekondi-Takoradi, Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, New Juaben, Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, Offinso North, Keta, Ketu South, Ho, and Afadjato South.
Prospective candidates are required to obtain nomination forms at no cost from the District Offices of the Electoral Commission or download them from the Commission’s official website between October 6 and October 16, 2025.
Candidates are expected to submit 4 copies of the forms and 2 copies of a recent bust-sized photograph against a red background from Monday, 13th October to Thursday, 16th October 2025. For an Electoral area election, nomination forms must be validated and witnessed by a proposer, a seconder and supported by 18 registered voters residing in the electoral area.
Candidates or their proposer or seconder are required to submit nomination forms in person to the returning officer of the electoral areas for which they seek election.
For additional enquiries, the EC has directed candidates and voters to contact the Returning Officer of their Electoral area or visit the nearest EC office.
