Ekumfi paramount chief decries years of neglect despite political loyalty
The Paramount Chief of the Ekumfi Traditional Area in the Central Region, Odeefuo Akyin, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as years of neglect of the Ekumfi District, despite its significant political contributions to Ghana.
According to the chief, Ekumfi has produced both a President and a Vice President in the past, yet the district continues to lag behind in development.
He noted that Ekumfi is widely regarded as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has consistently won elections in the constituency over the years.
Odeefuo Akyin said he finds it difficult to understand why the district remains overlooked despite its unwavering political support.
He lamented that all roads within the Ekumfi District are in deplorable condition after years of neglect.
He indicated that several press conferences, demonstrations, and petitions have been organised to demand road construction, but these efforts have yielded no results.
The chief further highlighted the lack of a proper market centre for traders, forcing many to sell their goods under the scorching sun.
He appealed to the government to prioritise the district’s development needs, particularly the rehabilitation of roads.
He also called for support to construct a modern market, revealing that a large parcel of land has already been allocated for the project.
According to him, previous governments failed to take the concerns of the people of Ekumfi seriously, and the traditional authorities are now appealing for concrete action.
Addressing chiefs and NDC party executives in the Ekumfi Constituency, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, assured them that their concerns would be addressed.
His remarks form part of his ongoing thank-you tour in the Central Region, which has also taken him to Effutu and Ajumako Enyan Essiam, where he pledged that the sacrifices made by party executives during the 2024 campaign would be rewarded now that the NDC is in power and committed to fulfilling its manifesto promises.
