Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, representing a presidential delegation on National Prayer, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, to formally invite Parliament to participate in Ghana’s upcoming National Day of Prayer and Reflection.

The event, slated for July 1st, 2025, is being organised under the theme: “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.”

It seeks to foster reflection, repentance, renewal, and recommitment to the ideals of peace, unity, and progress in Ghana.

According to the delegation, the day will feature two interfaith services.

A Christian service will be held at the forecourt of the State House from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a Muslim service at the National Mosque in Kanda from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm.

All participants are encouraged to dress in white or national colours, avoiding any partisan or political displays.

In his remarks during the visit, Speaker Bagbin welcomed the initiative and underscored the importance of unity and shared national values.

He stressed the need for inclusive dialogue, noting that complex national issues must be addressed by individuals with wisdom, knowledge, and a deep understanding of Ghana’s heritage.

The Speaker spoke passionately about Ghana’s historical identity, describing it as the “centre of the world” and the “Mecca of the black race.”

He lamented that many Ghanaians have lost sight of the country's founding principles, which emphasise inclusivity and harmony, as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

“We must revisit and recommit to the values that have held us together as one people.

Events like this are critical in reminding us of who we are and where we are going as a nation,” he said.

The National Day of Prayer and Reflection is expected to bring together a broad spectrum of Ghanaian society.

Key figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the National Chief Imam, and other prominent religious leaders, have already expressed their support and participation.

The event is poised to serve as a powerful symbol of national unity, offering Ghanaians a moment to come together in prayer, reflection, and renewed purpose for the country’s collective future.
