The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr Abraham Koomson, has criticised the current administration for what he describes as a failure to swiftly prosecute individuals implicated in corruption under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Mr. Koomson voiced his disappointment over the continued freedom of individuals he claims were central to major financial irregularities during the NPP era.

He lamented that instead of facing justice, some of these individuals are now boldly criticising the current government.

His comments come on the heels of a controversial memo by embattled former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, addressed to the National Security Coordinator.

In the memo, Adu-Boahene alleged that over GH¢8 million was channelled to opposition parties to aid in the procurement of election collation logistics and equipment.

He also claimed the GH¢49 million he is accused of embezzling was used for covert national security operations.

Additionally, Adu-Boahene accused the Attorney-General of engaging in a “malicious prosecution” against him.

Reacting to the memo, Mr. Koomson dismissed the claims as “baseless,” insisting Adu-Boahene should already be facing jail time.

“He should have been in jail by now instead of talking,” Mr. Koomson said bluntly.

The GFL Secretary-General also called for a full-scale investigation into the reported disappearance of containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He blamed ongoing power outages in parts of the country on mismanagement and corruption within the ECG and urged the government to bring all those responsible to book.

Mr. Koomson went further to single out Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, a former Board Chair of ECG, stating that he too should be held accountable for his role in the alleged mismanagement.

“He should be behind bars instead of being a loudmouth critic of the current administration,” he said.

In conclusion, Mr. Koomson urged the government to expedite investigations and ensure that all individuals who deliberately caused financial loss to the state are prosecuted, regardless of their political affiliations.
