Ghana strengthens bond of friendship with Brunei

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey paid a working visit to Brunei Darussalam on 8th June, 2024.
Ghana and Brunei have enjoyed cordial relations since 1991, which culminated in reciprocal high-level visits between the two countries during the tenure of the late President Jerry John Rawlings.
The Minister’s visit, therefore provided an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen the bonds of friendship that exist between Ghana and Brunei.
During her visit, Ayorkor Botchwey held separate meetings with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof.
During these meetings, the Minister expressed the readiness of the Government of Ghana to explore cooperation in areas of interest including education and institutional development, health and infrastructure.
The Minister also used the opportunity to highlight her candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and put forward her agenda for transforming the Commonwealth Secretariat into a consequential organisation, capable of supporting a development cooperation model for resilience-building in the poorer part of the Commonwealth.
