'It's 'sakawa politics'; Ghanaians wiser than that' – Mahama on Akufo-Addo's sod-cutting spree
Former President John Mahama has said Ghanaians will not allow themselves to be deceived by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the second time.
“First fool is not a fool”, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said on Thursday, 15 October 2020 when he interacted with canoe owners, fishermen and fishmongers in the Central Region, explaining: “We were deceived in 2016 but you can no longer deceive us”.
To Mr Mahama, President Akufo-Addo’s numerous sod-cuttings are nothing but deception.
“So, now the President is touring the country with shovels and whatever problems are told him exist by the chiefs in the various communities he tours, he then says: ‘OK, you don’t have a hospital, you don’t have drinking water; we’ll give you one’ – then takes his shovel and cuts sod for it”.
“This is what we call ‘sakawa politics’ but it won’t work. Ghanaians are wiser than that”, the former President said.
Apart from cutting sods for new projects, the President has also been opening some completed projects during his tour of the country.
