MP condemns brutal killing of two women in Tempane Constituency
The Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency and Minister Responsible for Public Sector Reforms, Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba has issued a press release condemning the unlawful killing of two women at Sumaduuri, a community under Tempane Constituency, on January 23, 2026.
According to the press release, the two women were brutally killed following accusations of witchcraft, an act that Madam Akanvariba described as "cruel, unlawful, and completely unacceptable."
She extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that justice would be pursued fully.
Madam Akanvariba emphasised that the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana guarantees the right to life and dignity of every person, and that the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Act, 2023 (Act 1101) criminalises the accusation or labelling of any person as a witch.
She commended the Ghana Police Service for the swift arrest of those involved and urged that investigations and prosecutions be expedited.
The MP assured the people of Sumaduuri and the entire Tempane Constituency that the matter would not be treated lightly and that her office would continue to work with security agencies, traditional authorities, civil society organisations, and the media to protect vulnerable persons and prevent the recurrence of such violence.
Madam Akanvariba concluded by stating that "Mob justice has no place in our communities. The rule of law must prevail."
