Minority accuses Mahama gov't of repackaging Akufo-Addo administration's road projects as new

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused the government of political dishonesty by repackaging legacy road projects under its new “Big Push Programme” in the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
According to the group, a number of projects included in the list were initiated or fully designed under the previous administration.
Notable among the rebranded roads are the Wa–Han Road, Navrongo–Tumu Road, Sunyani Outer Ring Road, and Tema–Aflao Road.
“These projects are not new,” declared Kennedy Osei Nyarko.
“They were either planned, tendered, or commenced under the previous government. What we are witnessing is political erasure disguised as innovation.”
The caucus believes such actions risk eroding public trust in governance and suggests a lack of genuine commitment to new infrastructure development.
“Repackaging old ideas without credit to predecessors is not only dishonest but also unproductive,” Hon. Nyarko noted.
“It would serve the nation better if the government embraced continuity.”
Beyond the rebranding, the Minority questioned the budget’s credibility in terms of deliverability. With Ghana still grappling with severe fiscal constraints, it is unclear how such a large portfolio of projects can be financed and completed.
“Where is the funding? What are the timelines?
The document is silent,” he stated.
The Minority has called on the government to present a revised list that acknowledges prior investments, focuses on ongoing strategic corridors, and includes detailed implementation frameworks.
“This is not the time for optics,” Mr. Nyarko stressed.
“We need accountability, not illusions.”
