NDC opposes automatic re-arrangement of ballot positions by EC

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has issued a strong notice to the Electoral Commission (EC), signalling firm opposition to any automatic re-arrangement of candidates’ positions on the ballot.
In his statement on Facebook dated October 30, Dr. Boamah emphasized that his party would not accept any arbitrary changes to ballot placements, underscoring the importance of transparency and adherence to fair electoral practices.
His remarks come amid growing concerns that such a move could influence the integrity of the voting process.
“We shall not accept automatic re-arrangement of positions on the ballot,” Dr. Boamah asserted, suggesting that such a shift might compromise the level playing field critical to fair elections.
Dr. Boamah’s notice to the EC has heightened public scrutiny of the electoral body’s preparations as the country moves closer to the upcoming general elections.
Meanwhile, though “near completion,” the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) “has suspended the printing of presidential ballot papers” in view of the “unfortunate passing” of Madam Akua Donkor.
A farmer and politician, the founder and presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, passed on Monday, October 28, 2024. She was pronounced dead at the Ridge Hospital, Accra, having been transferred there from the Nsawam Government Hospital.
According to her last child, the head of the family will in due time explain the circumstances surrounding Madam Donkor’s shocking passing. She was 72.
In its Tuesday, October 29, statement, signed by its Deputy Chairman (Operations), Samuel Tettey, the EC prayed: "May she rest in peace."
