NPP sets April 13 to elect candidate for Ejisu by-election
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled Saturday, April 13, 2024, for the election of a parliamentary candidate in the Ejisu constituency by-election, following the demise of MP and Deputy Finance Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah.
A statement issued by the party's General Secretary, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, said interested candidates can procure and submit their nomination forms from Tuesday, April 2, to Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the constituency party office.
As outlined by the NPP, aspiring parliamentary candidates must pay a non-refundable application fee of GHȼ3,000 and a filing fee of GHȼ35,000, payable through bankers draft to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters in Accra. However, women, youth (aged 18-40), and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) are eligible for a 50% rebate on filing fees, reducing their obligation to GHȼ17,500.
The party has established an Election Committee (EC) to oversee the process, chaired by Mr. Danquah Smith Butey and vice-chaired by Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, along with other members including Ms Patricia Appiagyei, Ms Martha Kodua, and Mr. Evans Nimako as Secretary.
The constituency council of elders and all constituency executives serve as ex-officio members.
The NPP has also sanctioned detailed regulations for the parliamentary primary, which will be disseminated to stakeholders. The Electoral Commission is yet to announce the by-election date.
