Former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, has laid the blame for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections squarely at the feet of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show with Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, Dr. Boakye Danquah described Dr. Bawumia as an ineffective flagbearer who failed to lead the party to victory in the December 7, 2024 polls.

He said the NPP’s overwhelming loss to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by John Dramani Mahama, who won by over two million votes, was a clear indication that Bawumia lacked the nationwide appeal necessary to secure electoral success.

According to Dr. Boakye Danquah, who is currently a member of the Ken for President 2028 campaign team, the former Vice President should not be considered for another presidential run.

“Dr. Bawumia has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he cannot win elections for the NPP,” he said.

“Unlike former President Akufo-Addo, who, after narrowly losing in 2008, maintained his momentum and eventually won in 2016, Dr. Bawumia failed to build on the gains handed over to him by Nana Addo's administration.”

He argued that while Bawumia may be popular within party circles, he lacks broader national appeal — a critical quality for any presidential candidate hoping to win power.

“To win an election, you must be loved by both your party base and the general population,” he emphasised.

“Unfortunately, that balance is missing in the case of the former Vice President.”
