Okere MP calls for amendments to Local Governance Act over conflicting provisions
The Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, has called for significant amendments to the Local Governance Act to address inconsistencies in the reporting structure of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) Administrator.
According to him, the current provisions in the Act create confusion and inefficiencies in oversight and coordination.
Mr. Addo-Kenneth highlighted that under the Act, the DACF Administrator is required to report to both the President and Parliament.
However, another provision mandates the Administrator to report to the Minister for Local Government, creating conflicting lines of authority.
“This lack of clarity affects coordination, supervision, and synergy between the Local Government Minister and the DACF Administrator.
It is crucial to amend the law to ensure proper collaboration,” he stated.
Speaking to journalists, the lawmaker emphasized the need for a new legal framework that would ensure the DACF Administrator reports directly to the Local Government Minister.
“This amendment will enhance efficiency, accountability, and proper allocation of funds to the various District Assemblies,” he added.
