Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Awentami  Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman in the Party’s upcoming national officers’ election.

In a statement issued in Accra, Mr. Afoko said his decision followed extensive reflection and broad encouragement from party members, supporters, and key stakeholders who believe the NPP needs renewed leadership grounded in its founding values and democratic principles.

“This decision has not been taken lightly,” Mr. Afoko said.

“It comes after careful consideration and in response to consistent calls for leadership renewal rooted in the founding values and ideals of our great Party.”

He emphasised that his commitment to the NPP has remained unwavering, expressing a deep desire to contribute to the rebuilding and strengthening of the Party at what he described as a critical juncture in its political journey.

“While the journey has not been without its trials, I have always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP above all else,” he stated.

“My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future — one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people.”

Mr. Afoko said his campaign would be anchored on integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose, adding that he intends to engage widely with party members, delegates, and the media in the coming weeks to share his vision for the Party’s future.

He concluded his statement with a message of collective optimism and renewal, urging NPP members to unite behind a common goal.

“Let us look ahead together. God bless the NPP. God bless our dear country,” he declared.

Mr. Afoko, who previously served as NPP National Chairman, is expected to campaign on a message of reconciliation, inclusiveness, and a return to the Party’s core values as the race for the National Chairmanship gathers momentum.
