The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said the National Peace Council has not been helpful in the wake of voter registration exhibition fallouts.

Mr Aseidu Nketia indicated that the Peace Council ought to have called on the NDC to find solutions to the problem at hand, adding that the Council is incapacitated to deal with the situation.

Speaking at the NDC’s media encounter to address the voter registration anomalies on Thursday, 24 September 2020, Mr Nketia said: “As for the Peace Council, they themselves are aware of the problem, so, they should be calling us because they have followed this process”.

“We have given them all our issues relating to the preparation towards election from day one to date.

“We have not found any single solution from that platform and, so, we don't think that solutions to this problem lie with the Peace Council,” he added.

Mr Asiedu Nketia further inferred that the Electoral Commission’s Eminent Advisory Committee has contributed to the anomalies involved in the electoral process, adding that they have also lost the credible position of providing counsel on the issue.

“The Electoral Commission itself constituted a committee of eminent persons to advise them, so, we presume that the printing of these papers on our blind side was done with the advice of the committee of eminent persons.

“So, they have excluded themselves from opinion leaders who we should be consulting for solutions because they are part of the problem,” he noted.

The EC set up a 21-member Eminent Advisory Committee in 2019 to facilitate engagements between the Commission and the Ghanaian society ahead of the 2020 general elections.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NDC, Mr John Mahama, intimated that neither he nor the party will accept the results of a flawed election.

Speaking at the same event, he said: “We in the NDC have exhibited restraint at all times in this electoral process.”

 “Even now, we are committed to doing so.

“But, let me serve notice once again that we’ll not accept results of a flawed election,” Mr Mahama cautioned.

“We will certainly not look on, neither will we shirk our civic responsibility and allow the EC, whether by ill intent or sheer incompetence, to usurp the people’s mandate in the December 7 polls.

“The EC must take immediate steps to rectify and sanitise the register and re-exhibit it, to afford the voting public and all stakeholders, an opportunity to verify their particulars in the voter register before it is finalized,” he said.
