President Mahama confers Ghana’s highest national honour on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

President John Dramani Mahama has conferred Ghana’s highest national honour, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his exceptional statesmanship and influential leadership on the global stage.
The prestigious award was presented during Prime Minister Modi’s two-day state visit to Ghana from Wednesday, July 2 to Thursday, July 3, 2025. The honour celebrates his significant contributions to global diplomacy, international development cooperation, and the advancement of South-South partnerships.
In a citation accompanying the award, President Mahama praised Prime Minister Modi for his visionary leadership, under which India has emerged as a global powerhouse in economic resilience, technological innovation, and peacebuilding.
“In honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we celebrate not just a friend of Ghana, but a global statesman whose leadership has impacted lives beyond his nation’s borders,” President Mahama said.
Strengthening Ties Across Strategic Sectors
Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to working together in several critical areas, including:
* Infrastructure development
* Digital transformation and technology transfer
* Agricultural modernisation
* Defence and security cooperation
* Youth empowerment and skills development
The talks concluded with the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to facilitate joint projects and expand institutional partnerships between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit, capped by the national honour conferred by President Mahama, marks the beginning of a renewed chapter in Ghana–India relations—one built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common vision for inclusive and sustainable development.
