Provide evidence I tarnished image of Wontumi-Ofori Atta to Ashanti NPP
Mr Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, the Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Manhyia South in the Ashanti Region, has issued a robust response to accusations levelled against him by demanding concrete evidence from the Regional Executive Committee.
In a letter directed to the Regional Executive Committee dated Friday, March 15, 2024, Mr Ofori Atta expressed his dissatisfaction with the procedural irregularities surrounding his summons, asserting that proper due process was not followed.
He highlighted the absence of key statutory committees within the party, notably the Regional Disciplinary Committee, which he contends must be constituted before any disciplinary action can be initiated.
Mr Ofori Atta cited the NPP's Constitution, which mandates that any petition must undergo discussion before the Regional Executive Committee prior to any further steps being taken.
He insisted that such a meeting had not yet taken place.
Consequently,Mr Ofori Atta demanded tangible evidence from the Regional Executive Committee demonstrating the lawful establishment of the Regional Disciplinary Committee, including the names of its members.
Moreover, he requested substantiation of the alleged statements, documents, and video recordings in which he is purported to have denigrated the reputation of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The allegations against Ofori Atta originated from a letter penned by Paul Kwabena Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the NPP, accusing him of conduct detrimental to the party's image.
Yandoh's letter alleges that Ofori Atta disparaged the National Organiser of the Party, Benjamin Nana Boakye (Nana B), as a liar and made derogatory remarks against Chairman Wontumi on several occasions.
Furthermore, Yandoh claimed that Ofori Atta made baseless accusations against Chairman Wontumi on radio stations in Accra and Kumasi.
In response to these allegations, the party summoned Ofori Atta to appear before the Party’s Disciplinary Committee, prompting his request for evidence and clarification.
This unfolding situation underscores internal tensions within the NPP and underscores the paramount importance of adhering to due process in handling disciplinary matters.
