Struggle for next NDC leader'll make Mahama gov't lose focus if he wins 2024 polls - Afenyo-Markin says Bawumia 'better' option
Voting for former President John Mahama in the 7 December polls would be bad news for Ghana, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said.
The caucus leader told journalists on Friday, 19 April 2024 that Mr Mahama and the NDC have nothing new to offer Ghanaians.
“We have the NDC candidate who has had the opportunity to serve as vice president and president. He’s been vice president for three and a half years before and he’s been president for some four and half years".
"We know his track record. He is the same person with the same old team coming to tell us that they have something to offer but we know their track record", Mr Afenyo-Markin noted.
In his estimation, should Mr Mahama win the next presidential election, “he has only one term", pointing out: "There will be no sense of urgency".
"And we dare say that from day one, that government will be in crisis because those party people will be struggling for who should be the next leader", the Effutu MP analysed. He said: "Ghanaians need a stable government with focus", noting that the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia "offers a better future than John Mahama".
Mr Afenyo-Markin also said Mr Mahama's running mate, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has done nothing for her home region, Central, for which she would attract any votes
