Trotro driver crashes into fence wall of former President Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence

A commercial minibus, popularly known as a "trotro", on Wednesday night crashed into the fence wall of the private residence of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Nima, a suburb of Accra.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle after attempting to swerve to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming car.
The trotro, which was carrying passengers, veered off the road and slammed into the outer perimeter wall of the former president’s residence, causing visible structural damage.
No casualties have been reported as of the time of filing this report, although several passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene.
Security personnel at the residence quickly responded, cordoning off the area and assisting in managing the situation.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary assessments suggest that speeding and possible brake failure may have contributed to the crash.
Former President Akufo-Addo was reportedly not at home during the incident.
His office has since confirmed that the occupants were safe and unharmed.
Residents in the area have called on city authorities to implement stricter traffic controls and speed-calming measures on the narrow stretch of road in front of the former president’s residence, which has seen several minor accidents in recent months.
The damaged section of the wall is expected to be repaired in the coming days.
Meanwhile, police have taken the trotro driver into custody to assist with investigations.
