UE/R: Registration halted to avert clash between our staff and residents – EC

The Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr William Obeng Adarkwah, has clarified the reasons behind the temporary suspension of the voter registration process in the Bawku District.
This suspension was prompted by concerns raised by residents during the first day of the exercise, where they expressed dissatisfaction with the presence of only one registration machine and even threatened to attack the registration personnel.
Mr Adarkwah explained that the decision to halt the registration process was taken in the interest of the safety of the registration personnel and to prevent potential conflicts between residents and EC staff.
He emphasised that the EC aims to ensure a smooth and peaceful registration process for all eligible citizens.
Furthermore, Mr Adarkwah mentioned that on Monday, September 18, 2023, his office would engage in a dialogue with the concerned residents to seek a mutually acceptable solution to the registration challenges in the Bawku District.
