To choose who will represent the president in the various districts, municipalities or metropolitan assemblies in the Volta region, the leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vetted a total of 237 individuals aspiring for the positions of metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) over the past two weeks.

The vetting process started on Tuesday, January 15, and ended on the January 28, 2025, with a total of 30 female and 207 male candidates participating.

Addressing the media after the vetting, Mr Egypt Kudoto who chaired the vetting committee commended the candidates for their zeal and willingness to serve their people.

“We are grateful that the various candidates have filed to serve their people and it is a good step to bring development to the area,” he said.

“The responsibility of the committee is to choose three candidates each from the various districts and send their names to the president who he will then make his final choice as to who represents him in the various 18 districts of the Volta region,” he added.

Mr Egypt Kudoto urged all residents of the 18 districts to work together with whoever the president may choose in order to accelerate development in the area.

Meanwhile, the Regional Women Organiser of the NDC, Madam Delphine Fafa Agba, has congratulated the women who participated in the vetting, urging the national leadership of the party, and the president to ensure at least 7 or 8 females were given the opportunity to represent him.

According to her, gone were the days where women were stigmatised for occupying public positions. She highlighted there was now an agenda to ensure equal opportunities were given to women to participate in the governance processes.

She, also, urged the women who might be fortunate to be appointed by the president to ensure they transformed their districts, creating more opportunities for others.

Meanwhile, a total of 13 candidates represented Hohoe Municipality; 9 from Kpando, 15 from Afadzato South, 30 from North Tongu.

There were 20 from Central Tongu, 10 from South Tongu, Ketu North12, and Ketu South 16.

Seven candidates were vetted from Akatsi South, 16 from North Dayi, 9 from South Dayi, and 13 from Ho West.

Agortime Ziope had eight aspirants, Adaklu had seven, Ho Central had 17, Anlo had 17, Keta had 12, and Akatsi North had four.

It was a colourful and heartwarming moment when people from the various districts followed their candidates with all kinds of dancing and drumming groups to cheer them up, registering their support.
