Vice President commiserates with families of Okumah boat accident victims
Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has visited Okumah in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region to express her condolences to the families of 16 people who tragically lost their lives in a boat accident on October 11, 2025.
During her visit, the Vice President donated over 600 life jackets and other relief items to support both the bereaved families and survivors of the disaster.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed deep sympathy for the victims’ families, assuring them that the government stands firmly with them in their moment of grief.
“You are not alone in this time of mourning. The Government is with you. Together, we will work to ensure such a tragedy never happens again,” she said.
She further announced that the government will bear the full cost of burial for all those who lost their lives in the accident. Additionally, measures are being put in place to provide rapid support for survivors and enhance safety on the Volta Lake to prevent future incidents.
The Vice President’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives in communities that rely heavily on water transport and ensuring that necessary safety measures are prioritised going forward
