We won’t share in NDC’s ‘lawless theatre’ – Afenyo-Markin
The embattled Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not participate in what he termed as the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s "lawless theatre" in Parliament following the Supreme Court's ruling for a stay of execution on the declaration of vacant seats.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the NPP remains the Majority Caucus in Parliament and will not join the NDC in any actions that undermine the authority of the Supreme Court.
He cited this as the reason behind the NPP’s decision to boycott proceedings after the Minority NDC MPs took seats on the right-hand side of the Speaker’s chair, traditionally reserved for the Majority.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Afenyo-Markin asserted that the NPP, as a peace-loving party, would not take any steps that could disrupt the peace and stability of the nation.
He expressed confidence that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, with his extensive legal background, would comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling, ensuring that the declaration of vacancies is handled in accordance with the law.
We are law-abiding and we will remain in our offices until the speaker comes to the House to make his announcement to the House upon receipt of the Supreme Court ruling, he concluded
