"You don't stand a chance; don't bulldoze your way through" – Nyaho-Tamakloe warns Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo does not stand a chance of winning the 2020 elections and, so, must not bulldoze his way through it, a founding father of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has said.

In a recent interview with Felicity Naana Nelson on Class FM’s Straight Talk programme, the former President of the Ghana Football Association said: “From what I’ve seen so far and what I’ve heard so far, he [President Nana Akufo-Addo] doesn’t stand a chance and he has to be careful; he should not bulldoze his way. That one I’ll say it and say it anywhere: he should not bulldoze his way against the wishes of the people because that would be a disaster”.

“Let’s get it straight: he should not – I repeat it – bulldoze his way against the will of the people”, the retired army officer and medical doctor said.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, who has been suspended by the party, also said the posture of the Electoral Commission in pushing for a new register despite several stakeholders kicking against it, portends disaster for the country.

“You can see clearly that this will bring problems and serious problems. I’m surprised they don’t seem to see it. Once again, I’m telling them [Electoral Commission], they have to be careful with some of these things.

“A lot of recognised institutions have come out to say: ‘Don’t go that way’, apart from the huge amount of money that they are going to use. I mean, you can imagine what is going to happen with this coronavirus that nobody knows when it’s going to end … And I will doubt strongly if even people will go and register.

“Now, if they send their own people to go and register and through that they win an election, that will be the end of this country. Mark my words and no one wants that. You see, we take certain things for granted; what happened in other countries can happen here.

“Let no one deceive himself or herself that some of these things cannot happen here … Now we are really fomenting the grounds for such unnecessary disturbances in this country.

“All intelligence reports, and I know, indicate clearly that the people are not happy with what is happening. The EC must be very very careful”.
