Ghana implements groundbreaking cybersecurity regulatory framework
Ghana has achieved a significant milestone in cybersecurity by becoming the first country in Africa and the second globally, after Singapore, to implement a comprehensive regulatory framework for Cybersecurity Service Providers (CSPs), Cybersecurity Establishments (CEs), and Cybersecurity Professionals (CPs).
In a historic ceremony held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) officially licensed and accredited 51 CSPs, CEs, and CPs.
This marks a culmination of months of rigorous efforts to align Ghana’s cybersecurity standards with global benchmarks.
Addressing the recipients, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, Director-General of the CSA, emphasized the importance of compliance with the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).
He cautioned unlicensed entities offering cybersecurity services, stating that stringent measures would be enforced, including criminal prosecutions and administrative penalties.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako highlighted the collaborative approach taken by the CSA, involving extensive stakeholder engagements since October 2022.
Over 30 industry engagements were conducted across sectors, refining guidelines and supporting registrants through the application process.
Mrs. Adelaide Benneh-Prempeh, a member of the CSA governing board, described the regulatory framework as pivotal to Ghana’s cybersecurity industry development.
She stressed the ceremony’s significance in fostering collaboration and innovation among CSPs, CEs, and CPs for adaptive resilience and continuous improvement
