Augustine Ahinful calls for clarity on Stephen Appiah’s role in Black Stars management committee
Former Ghanaian international Augustine Ahinful has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to provide further details on Stephen Appiah’s role within the newly constituted Black Stars Management Committee.
The GFA announced the formation of the new committee on January 18, 2025, after dissolving the previous one, chaired by Mark Addo, following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As part of the restructuring, Appiah, who captained Ghana to its historic first FIFA World Cup in 2006, was appointed Vice Chairman of the committee, with a focus on player relations.
However, Ahinful has raised concerns about the ambiguity of “player relations”, calling on the GFA to provide greater clarity on Appiah’s specific duties.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Ahinful stated:
"I think the GFA must explain further what they mean by player relations because the best relations come from the coach interacting with the players daily to know how they are doing."
He added, “I believe the GFA has identified a gap within the team, and they need someone like Stephen Appiah to step in and engage with the players in a brotherly manner.
His role should help align the team with the GFA’s vision and ensure better communication.”
Composition of the New Black Stars Management CommitteeThe newly appointed Black Stars Management Committee includes:
Dr. Randy Abbey – Chairman, responsible for liaising with the government and key stakeholders. Stephen Appiah – Vice Chairman, focusing on player relations. Samuel Aboabire – Greater Accra Regional FA Chairman and GFA Executive Council member, overseeing operations and matchday activities. Moses Armah – President of Medeama Sporting Club, responsible for sponsor, partner, and collaborator relations. Richard Nsenkyire – President of FC Samartex 1996, in charge of special duties. The committee has been tasked with revamping the Black Stars’ structure and ensuring a more effective management approach ahead of future international competitions.
