Yeji astroturf in tatters in the Bono East Region

The Yeji astroturf in the Bono East Region built by the defunct Ministry of Inner-Cities and Zongo Development is rotting away.

The property is not being maintained as it should.

The project was built in 2017 to serve as a playing field to unearth football talents and to serve as a community centre.

Accra 100.5 FM’s correspondent for the Bono Region, Twum Barimah, told Odyeeba Kofi Essuman, host of the station's morning show Ghana Yensom that the place is in tatters.

He said the fence of the turf is falling off while the field has become a playground for stray animals in the Yeji district.

The animals, he noted, graze on the field.

According to him, the turf has been turned into a dump site.

He said the management committee that oversaw the use of the facility, charged between GHS100 and GHS300.

The District Chief Executive for Pru East, Alhaji Adams Abdulai, explained that he ordered the closure of the facility for renovation.

He admitted his attention was drawn to the situation pertaining to the management of the facility by some media personnel.

According to him, several attempts to get a report from the management committee have met dead-ends.

“As it stands now, as DCE, I don’t know the committee members,” he said.

He alleged the facility was left to rot because there was a tiff between its manager and the committee members.
