Black Stars budget will be made public: President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized his commitment to transparency in sports funding, indicating that all national team budgets would be publicly disclosed.
In his recent State of the Nation Address, he directed the Minister for Sports and Recreation to ensure the Ghana Football Association (GFA) makes the Black Stars' budget available to the public, highlighting the importance of accountability in the use of taxpayers' money.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Chad in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, March 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by an away match against Madagascar on Monday March 24.
These matches are crucial as the team aims to secure a spot in the global tournament.
This directive comes in the wake of the Black Stars' recent failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time since 2004 that Ghana will miss the tournament.
The GFA has since issued an apology to Ghanaians for the team's performance and has accepted responsibility for the outcome.
The GFA, established in 1957, serves as the governing body of association football in Ghana.
It oversees the organization of the national football league, the Premier League, and the men's and women's national teams. In recent years, the association has faced challenges, including a dissolution in 2018 due to corruption allegations, but it has since been reconstituted and continues to manage football activities in the country.
President Mahama's call for budget transparency aims to restore public trust and ensure that funds allocated to national teams are used effectively to enhance performance and development in Ghanaian football.
