DR Congo suffer late heartbreak after Harry Kane double sends England into last 16
DR Congo were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup after conceding two late goals in a 2-1 defeat to England in Atlanta.
Brian Cipenga gave DR Congo an early lead, and the African side looked on course for a place in the last 16 as they defended resolutely for much of the match.
Goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi produced a string of outstanding saves to deny England, while Yoane Wissa came close to doubling DR Congo's advantage just before half-time but struck the post with the goal at his mercy.
The missed opportunity proved costly as England captain Harry Kane equalised with a header in the 75th minute from Anthony Gordon's cross.
Kane then completed the turnaround four minutes from time, collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty area before turning and firing a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner.
The defeat ended DR Congo's hopes of reaching the knockout stage after coming within 15 minutes of a famous victory over England.
England advance to the last 16, where they will face co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca Stadium on 6 July.
