Dec. 7 polls: Black Stars call on Ghanaians to vote peacefully, tolerate opposing views
“I’m calling out for peace. Vote in peace, and no matter the outcome, please stay peaceful and protect the democracy,” Otto Addo has said.
The Black Stars coach was the last to speak in a video posted on the verified Black Stars page on X.
The post, part of a Say No to Election Violence campaign, was captioned: “Election 2024 is upon us – Let’s come together as one nation, prioritizing peace, respect, and unity above all.”
In the video, some Black Stars players spoke in English, Akan, and Ga, encouraging Ghanaians to “follow your heart,” as they vote peacefully, and “return home without fighting”.
Gideon Mensah highlighted the electoral process gave citizens the power to “shape the country,” advocating tolerance for diverse political opinions, too.
Mohammed Kudus urged “for peaceful elections because you know we’re all one in the country, before and after the elections”.
As Ghana goes to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to choose a new president and parliamentary representatives, it is inspiring to see the Black Stars leveraging their influence on fans and voters to commit to peace and the safeguarding of Ghana's stability.
The Black Stars face Chad and Madagascar in March 2025 as part of efforts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
