GBF President promises thrilling National Amateur Boxing finals at Bukom

President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Mr Dauda Fuseni, has promised boxing fans an electrifying night of action when the finals of the 2026 National Individual Amateur Boxing Championship take place on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

In an exclusive interview, Mr. Fuseni said amateur boxing in Ghana is regaining momentum and becoming increasingly attractive to sponsors.

He revealed that several companies and international agencies have expressed interest in supporting the sport.

According to him, the championship finals will serve as a testing ground for the nation’s emerging talents, particularly prospects for the Black Bombers and Black Rockets, Ghana’s national amateur boxing teams.

He commended corporate entities that have already supported the championship, including Frieght Consult, Madar Soap, Twellium Industries Ghana Ltd, and The Gym.

He also welcomed potential sponsorship from major brands such as Guinness Ghana Breweries and Promasidor Ghana, producers of Cowbell products.

Mr. Fuseni noted that all finalists have performed creditably and deserve to be rewarded, expressing optimism that additional corporate partners will come on board to further incentivise champions.

A total of 145 boxers from across the country began the competition on January 29 and 30.

The tournament has now been narrowed down to 26 finalists who will compete for gold and silver medals.

Some of the notable young boxers who have qualified for the finals include Mathias Ashitey, Caleb Mensah, George Dowuona, Ebenezer Ankrah, Amadu Mohammed, Mubarak Amarh, Abdul Wahid Omar, Ibrahim Doku, Samuel Plange, Solomon Sackey, Zakaria Kamoko, Desmond Pappoe and Daniel Plange.

The event is expected to attract high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.

 

Coaches and finalists have expressed confidence ahead of the showdown, promising fans a memorable night of competitive and entertaining boxing.
