GPL: Sports Ministry condemns attack on Maxwell Konadu

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the attack on Coach Maxwell Konadu by soccer fans at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
In a statement issued following the incident, the Ministry condemned the attack on the coach.
The Ministry implored the Ghana Police Service “to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice, sending a clear message that violence in football will not be tolerated,” while calling on the GFA to “work closely with necessary stakeholders to enhance security at all match venues.”
It emphasised that: “The safety of teams, players and spectators should be paramount, and concerted efforts must be made to create an environment free from violence and hooliganism.”
The Ministry stressed that: “Football is a unifying force, and it is disheartening to witness incidents that tarnish the beautiful game.”
It also urged all football enthusiasts to and stakeholders to “uphold the values of fair play, sportsmanship, and respect, ensuring that Ghanaian football remains a source of pride and joy for all.”
The coach of Nsoatreman FC, Maxwell Konadu, was allegedly attacked by fans of Bofoakwa Tano at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
“Our coach Maxwell Konadu is being beaten at the moment at the Sunyani Coronation Park for picking a point in a draw game against the home team @bofoakwatano,” Nsoaterem FC announced on X, Sunday, 19 November 2023.
According to the Club, “they also attacked the match officials”.
The incident occurred following a draw between the two teams in week 11 of the Ghana Premier League, where Nsoatreman secured a crucial point, elevating them to the second spot on the league table.
The draw proved pivotal for Nsoatreman, positioning them above Bofoakwa Tano in the league standings.
