Ghana Para Athletics team departs for 2025 Marrakech Grand Prix

The Ghana Para Athletics team has departed from the Kotoka International Airport to participate in the 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco.
The event, which runs from April 22 to April 29 at the Marrakech Sports Stadium, marks Ghana’s first official qualification attempt for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The four-member delegation is led by a seasoned National Para Athletics Coach, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu Suleman. The athletes representing Ghana include:
Zinabu Issah, a decorated Paralympian and double gold medallist in the Women’s F57 Shot Put and Discus Throw at the 2024 Marrakech Grand Prix.
Edmund Govina, who competed in both the 2024 Marrakech and Paris Grand Prix events in the Men’s T31 Shot Put and Discus Throw categories.
Gilbert Ampiah, a rising star from St. Augustine’s College, set to undergo international classification in Morocco and make his debut on the global para-athletics stage.
Ahead of their departure, the team underwent intensive training sessions at the athletics warm-up field of the University of Ghana.
Upon arrival in Morocco, they are expected to continue preparations and acclimatise before the main events begin on April 26, 2025.
At the send-off ceremony held at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr. Ignatius Elletey, Executive Member of Ghana Para Athletics and representative of the President of NPC Ghana, Mr. Samson Deen, commended the athletes for their dedication and encouraged them to give their best to make the nation proud.
Mr. Samson Deen, who also serves as President of the African Paralympic Committee, along with other members of the NPC Ghana Board, is expected to join the team in Marrakech ahead of the competition.
