Ghana secures slot for 2024 CGF GAPS training camp in Mauritius
The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has successfully secured a slot for Ghana at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) GAPS training camp, which is being held in Mauritius from November 4 to 13, 2024.
This international training camp welcomes Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) from around the world and is designed to equip developing para-athletes and coaches with vital skills, knowledge, and resources to elevate their training and competitive abilities.
The camp offers participants a range of activities, including technical training sessions, coaching workshops, and educational presentations focused on sports psychology.
Additionally, it serves as a preparatory platform for athletes and coaches ahead of the next Commonwealth Games, set for Glasgow in 2026.
Representing Ghana at this year’s camp are Coach Ibrahim Suleman and para-athlete Zinabu Issah, who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The experience of Zinabu, who placed third out of twenty-three para-athletes in a tournament held at the Mauritius training camp, is expected to be a valuable asset for the event.
One of the primary goals of the GAPS camp is for seasoned athletes like Zinabu to share their international experiences and insights with newer athletes, fostering a spirit of mentorship and development.
The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana has expressed its appreciation for the continued partnership with the Ghana Olympic Committee in supporting the growth of para-athletes who will represent Ghana on the world stage.
This collaboration, the NPC explained marks a significant step forward in the country's preparation for international tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games.
