Ghana to face Chad at Accra Sports Stadium in 2026 World Cup Qualifier

Ghana’s Matchday 5 fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 17, 2025.
According to a report by Joy Sports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has opted not to propose alternative venues for inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This decision follows CAF’s withdrawal of approval for both the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium. The Baba Yara Stadium lost its certification in September 2024 due to “technical infractions, including an unsuitable playing field.”
As a result, the Accra Sports Stadium remains Ghana’s only approved venue for CAF and FIFA Category A matches.
The stadium’s return as the Black Stars’ primary home ground comes after extensive renovations and maintenance efforts in recent months. Following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Niger in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in November 2024, the venue was closed for three months for refurbishment.
During this period, the National Sports Authority (NSA), in collaboration with Green Grass Technology, worked to improve pitch conditions and upgrade internal facilities.
Their swift intervention played a crucial role in securing CAF’s conditional approval for hosting international matches.
With these enhancements in place, the Accra Sports Stadium is set to welcome the Black Stars and their fans for a crucial World Cup qualifying clash next month.
