Ghanaian football giants Accra Hearts of Oak have had their transfer ban officially lifted after clearing an outstanding debt owed to former player Francis Adjetey.

The ban, imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), stemmed from the club’s failure to meet a July 7, 2025 deadline to pay over GHS 106,000 to Adjetey, as ordered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The payment included GHS 106,477.42 with a 5% annual interest from September 2023, plus $1,250 in legal costs—bringing the total amount paid to over GHS 129,000.

After weeks of negotiations and unsuccessful attempts to stagger the payment, the Phobians made the full settlement on Thursday, July 17, prompting the GFA to automatically lift the transfer ban in line with its regulations.

The ban had prevented the club from registering players both locally and internationally, affecting their preparations for the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League season.

Earlier this week, JoySports sources revealed that Adjetey’s legal team had written to the GFA to enforce the ban, which prompted the club to respond with full payment to avoid further sanctions.

This development comes just two weeks after Hearts of Oak settled a separate $38,000 debt owed to New Edubiase United, relating to the transfer of midfielder Salim Adams.

That payment led to the lifting of an earlier transfer ban.

With both debts now cleared, Hearts of Oak are once again eligible to conduct transfer business as they gear up for the new season.

However, fresh trouble may be looming.

Reports indicate that FIFA has ordered the club to pay $150,000 to former Technical Director Rene Hiddink.

Failure to settle that amount could trigger another transfer ban.

For now, though, the Phobians can breathe a sigh of relief as they regain full participation rights in the transfer market.
