Hearts of Oak apologise, launch disciplinary action after post-match "incident" against Kotoko
In the wake of their high-profile Ghana Premier League fixture against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak SC has issued a formal apology and initiated disciplinary proceedings against a player following what the club describes as "unfortunate scenes" after the final whistle.
In a statement released on Monday from its Phobia House headquarters, the club expressed "deep regret" over the incident that marred the conclusion of the passionately contested match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
While the statement did not specify the exact nature of the event, it confirmed that a player was involved and that internal disciplinary processes have been launched.
The club emphasised that the actions witnessed "do not reflect the values we uphold as a club — values rooted in discipline, respect, and the spirit of fair play."
"Hearts unreservedly apologise to the Ghana Football Association, the match officials, our fans, and the general public," the statement read, acknowledging the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game.
The club extended special gratitude to the fans who turned out in large numbers for the match, acknowledging that their "energy and commitment continue to inspire us."
In a direct appeal to its supporters, the management asked for "continued support as we work to restore confidence and uphold the highest standards of conduct."
The statement, signed by the club's management and endorsed by its board of directors, including Togbe Afede XIV and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, underscores the club's intent to hold individuals accountable and reinforce its commitment to respect and discipline in the sport.
