Northern Regional Minister pledges strong support for football development in meeting with GFA president
Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, has pledged his full support for the development of football in Tamale and across the Northern Region following a courtesy visit by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
The minister gave the assurance when he received the GFA president and his delegation in Tamale ahead of the final leg of the Association’s tour of the three Northern Regions.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr Adolf John expressed delight at the visit and reaffirmed his personal passion for football, describing the sport as a powerful vehicle for youth empowerment and community development.
He committed to prioritising football development in the region and indicated his readiness to work closely with district chief executives to mobilise stronger backing for grassroots football initiatives.
The minister further assured President Simeon-Okraku of his full cooperation in strengthening partnerships that will create more opportunities for young people through sports.
President Simeon-Okraku, on his part, thanked the minister for the warm reception and explained that his visit formed part of efforts to engage key football stakeholders and deepen collaboration to grow the game.
He reiterated the GFA’s commitment to youth development, noting that football remains an effective tool for promoting social cohesion, national unity and economic opportunities for young people.
The GFA president also stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between the Association, government and local authorities to ensure the long-term growth of football both in the region and nationwide.
President Simeon-Okraku was accompanied to the meeting by the Chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association, Abu-Hassan Rhyzo, and members of the Regional Executive Committee, as he officially began activities in the Northern Region.
The visit follows the successful completion of similar tours of the Upper West and Upper East Regions.
