The Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to strictly enforce the COVID-19 protocols in all league matches.

In preparation toward the upcoming match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, a statement issued by the ministry noted that “as the league reaches its climax, we are concerned by the growing quest of fans who troop to the various stadia in their numbers to support their clubs in the midst of COVID-19 partial stadium restrictions”.

The statement continued: “We wish to remind all stakeholders, particularly the general public, that the government's directive on 25% attendance limitation is still in force at all the stadia for all category of professional league games in the country until otherwise directed".

“We have noted the violation of the 25% restriction and other COVID-19 protocols at some league matches in recent times”.

“In view of the current happenings, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, therefore, directs the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to strictly enforce these protocols in all league matches, with particular emphasis on the upcoming match Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, a fixture which attracts high fan interest and turnout.

“The National Sports Authority has been further directed to, in collaboration with the security services, ensure that fans do not mass up at the entrance of match venues to force their way into the stadium. To ensure this, the GFA should ensure that tickets are sold in advance,” the statement added.

The statement, therefore, indicated that the ministry “will not hesitate to order the immediate closure of any facility where compliance is flouted with the COVID-19 protocols, especially the 25% attendance restriction”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association has announced that tickets for the game will go on sale on Friday, 25 June 2021 and Saturday, 26 June at selected outlets.

Accordingly, there shall be no tickets on sale at the stadium gates on Sunday, 27 June 2021, and only persons with ticket shall be granted access to go near the stadium by the security personnel to be stationed at the roads leading to the stadium.

“There shall be joint military and police teams to be deployed at vantage roads leading to the Accra Sports Stadium,” the GFA said in a statement.

Fans without tickets have been advised not to set foot near the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
