We've disappointed Ghanaians big time – Black Stars team manager
Black Stars Team Manager, Ameenu Shardow, has described Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco as a major disappointment for the nation.
The four-time AFCON champions failed to win a single game in the qualifiers, capping their poor performance with a 1-0 loss to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium—a result that ended Ghana’s 16-year unbeaten record at the venue.
Reflecting on the team’s dismal outing, Shardow admitted in an interview on Accra-based Happy FM, “We have let Ghanaians down by failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Ghana’s absence from AFCON marks a sharp decline for a team that reached the semifinals of the tournament consistently between 2008 and 2017.
For the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars will miss Africa’s premier football competition, leaving fans disheartened.
In response to the team’s poor performances, the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on the situation.
Among the key topics for discussion is the performance of head coach Otto Addo, whose tenure has seen unprecedented setbacks, including the recent failure to qualify for AFCON.
Despite growing calls from the public for Addo’s dismissal, sources suggest there are no immediate indications that he will be sacked.
The GFA’s review of the situation is expected to set the tone for the future of the Black Stars, as Ghanaians demand accountability and a roadmap for rebuilding the national team.
