The government has earmarked GH¢1.5 billion for the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) as part of efforts to ensure food security, economic growth, and import reduction.

Announced in the 2025 Budget, the investment underscores President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to making agriculture a key driver of national development.

The funds will be directed towards major agricultural initiatives, including the Feed Ghana Programme, Ghana Grains Development Project, Vegetable Development Project, and Nkokor Nketenkete, all aimed at boosting local grain, poultry, and vegetable production—particularly tomatoes.

These sectors are expected to play a crucial role in reducing Ghana’s reliance on food imports, strengthening the economy, and generating employment opportunities.

The initiative is set to empower farmers, enhance agribusiness, and position Ghana towards self-sufficiency in key agricultural products.

If effectively implemented, Mr  Francis William Kwame Nyarko Appiah, an Agribusiness Specialist said in a statement dated March 13, 2025, it will help curb food inflation, improve livelihoods, and drive sustainable economic growth.

President Mahama’s vision for agriculture remains clear—to build a self-reliant Ghana with a flourishing agricultural sector that supports national development
