Agric Ministry begins distribution of 40,000 bags of Moroccan-donated fertiliser to farmers

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has commenced the nationwide distribution of 40,000 bags of fertilisers, donated by the Kingdom of Morocco, to support Ghanaian farmers.
The donation, valued at 2,000 metric tons, was facilitated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
At a brief ceremony to officially launch the distribution, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, underscored the critical importance of ensuring that the fertilisers reach the intended beneficiaries — Ghanaian farmers — without diversion or delay.
As part of the first phase of distribution, the Ministry has allocated:
20,000 bags to the Volta Region
10,000 bags to the Oti Region
Other allocations have been made to selected constituencies as well as the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, with the aim of ensuring widespread and equitable access to the fertilisers.
Minister Opoku emphasised that the Ministry had fulfilled its mandate by serving as the conduit for the fertiliser distribution and urged all recipient organisations and regional authorities to ensure timely and transparent delivery to farmers on the ground.
“The fertilisers must not end up in the wrong hands.
The success of this initiative depends on our collective integrity and accountability,” he stated.
The fertiliser donation is part of broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity in the country.
In the coming days, the Ministry will roll out additional distributions, targeting 25,000 more bags earmarked for the Upper East, Upper West, North East, and Savannah regions.
