GACL apologises for Tuesday’s check-in system disruption at KIA
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has issued an apology for the disruption in check-in systems at Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport.
The incident which occured on Tuesday, 16 July 16, 2024 at approximately 7:51 PM lasted about an hour, caused significant delays in passenger processing and airline turnaround times.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 17 July 2024, the GACL noted the disruption was attributed to a fibre optic system failure resulting from ongoing excavation works by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) along the fibre path of Telecel Ghana Limited between Cantonments and Teshie Nungua.
GACL was quick to dismiss rumors that the disruption was related to a power outage, commonly referred to as “dumsor.”
It said throughout the incident, passengers were kept informed through regular updates and intermittent announcements.
GACL noted that it efficiently managed the issue using backup internet services, allowing airlines to eventually depart for their respective destinations.
The management extended sincere apologies to all passengers affected by the downtime.
“We are committed to providing seamless facilitation through all airports operated by GACL,” the company assured.
The GACL also emphasised its dedication to maintaining efficient and reliable airport services, pledging to prevent such disruptions in the future.
