GRA refutes claims of SML resuming operations in petroleum and mineral sectors

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a statement refuting media reports suggesting that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) has resumed or expanded its revenue assurance mandate to include Ghana’s upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.
According to the statement released on May 14, 2025, the GRA emphasised that its directive suspending SML’s operations in those sectors—originally issued in April 2024—remains firmly in effect.
The clarification comes in response to recent reports published by several news outlets, including Business and Financial Times and Graphic Online, which indicated that SML had announced an expansion of its oversight responsibilities to cover the petroleum and mining sectors under a 2023 Consolidated Revenue Assurance Services Contract.
GRA, however, categorically denied issuing any instruction for SML to resume operations in these sectors.
“The Authority wishes to assure stakeholders in the aforementioned sectors and the general public of its unwavering commitment to protect the nation's revenue with integrity and transparency,” the statement concluded.
