The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has received the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, in Accra as part of engagements to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting also marked a significant milestone in Ghana–China cooperation, as the two countries signed a US$30 million grant agreement to support the construction of a new university in Damongo in the Savanna Region.

Dr Ato Forson expressed gratitude to Ambassador Tong on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana for his service and dedication to strengthening relations between Ghana and China during his tenure.

He further highlighted the importance of addressing exchange losses in bilateral trade, stressing that trade between Ghana and China should increasingly be settled in their respective local currencies to promote efficiency and reduce foreign exchange pressures.

The Finance Minister wished Ambassador Tong Defa well in his future endeavours and expressed confidence that Ghana–China relations would continue to grow stronger, building on the foundation of cooperation and mutual respect established over the years.

The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to advancing development cooperation, trade and investment for mutual benefit.
