Prof. Opoku Agyemang at the investiture of Guinea’s President-elect
Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is representing Ghana at the investiture ceremony of Guinea’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya, in Conakry on 17TH January, 2025.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s participation underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation and democratic solidarity in West Africa following Guinea’s recent elections and transition from Military rule.
Her attendance forms part of broader diplomatic efforts by Ghana to deepen engagement with its neighbour Guinea, building on longstanding historical ties that stretch back to the post-independence era where Dr. Kwame Nkrumah served as Co-President of Guinea after his overthrow on 24TH January, 1966.
Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Guinea’s first President, Ahmed Sékou Touré, were key proponents of Pan-African unity.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s mission also symbolises the renewal of ties between Accra and Conakry at a pivotal moment for the region.
This gesture reinforces Ghana’s diplomatic presence in key West African forums and reflects a mutual interest in strengthening the partnership that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Sekou Touré envisioned decades ago.
The ceremony, which is set to be held at the Stade General Lansana Conte in Conakry, will see various World leaders in attendance.
Officials from the office of the Vice President, led by the Chief of Staff at the office of the Vice President, Hon. Alex Segbefia, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa and Spokesperson to the Vice President, Ama pratt are expected to be part of Ghana’s delegation
