Ghana records sharp decline in food inflation under Feed Ghana Programme

Food inflation down

Ghana has recorded a significant reduction in food inflation, signalling strong progress under the Feed Ghana programme, according to recent figures.

In just one year, food inflation fell sharply to 3.9 percent in January 2026, down from 28.3 percent in December 2024.

The dramatic decline represents one of the lowest food inflation rates recorded in the country in recent years.

The improvement is being attributed to targeted agricultural interventions aimed at boosting domestic food production by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, stabilising supply chains, and reducing pressure on food prices.

Analysts say the development offers relief to households and businesses, particularly low-income families that were hardest hit by rising food costs.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, led by Mr Eric Opoku, has described the figures as an indication that policies focused on increasing productivity, supporting farmers, and improving market access are beginning to yield results.

He noted that sustained investment and policy consistency will be required to maintain the gains and protect against future shocks.

The reduction in food inflation is expected to have a positive impact on the broader economy by easing the cost of living and supporting overall price stability.
