The Government of Japan has granted 1.92 billion Japanese Yen (approximately $13 million) to Ghana to enhance the stability of the electricity supply in Tamale City, the capital of the Northern Region.

The agreement was formalized through an Exchange of Notes signed on Monday, March 10, 2025, between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Japan’s Ambassador to Ghana, Yoshimoto Hiroshi.

Minister Ablakwa highlighted the significance of the grant, describing it as a reflection of the strong diplomatic ties and friendship between Ghana and Japan.

The project aims to reduce frequent power fluctuations in Tamale, which have affected businesses and households.

Japan has been a long-standing development partner of Ghana, supporting key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

The Government believe that the project will boost economic activities in Tamale, a key commercial hub in the Northern Region, and improve the overall quality of life for residents
